How this works
This calculator combines three live data sources to give you a realistic trip cost estimate:
- Flight prices — fares found from our daily price-tracking pipeline. We check routes from major origins and store the cheapest fare discovered for each destination.
- Hotel baselines — per-night averages pulled from our destination database, with adjustments for trip style (budget, mid-range, luxury).
- Daily spend budget — covers food, local transit, sightseeing, and incidentals. Budget is $40-80/day, mid-range $80-150/day, luxury $200+/day depending on the city.
Change the trip length, travelers, or style and the total recalculates in real time. The breakdown shows exactly how we arrived at the number.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this trip cost calculator?
Flight prices come from our daily price tracking across 1,060+ routes and reflect the most recent fares found. Hotel and daily budget estimates are baselines for each destination, scaled by trip style (budget, mid-range, or luxury). The calculator gives you a realistic ballpark, not a booking-ready quote — actual prices vary by dates, booking window, and availability.
What's included in the estimate?
The calculator covers the three biggest travel expenses: round-trip flights from New York (scaled by number of travelers), hotel stays (scaled by nights and rooms), and daily budget (food, transit, activities, coffee — the everyday spend). It does not include visas, travel insurance, or pre-trip gear.
How are flight prices calculated?
We use the latest fares found by our price-tracking pipeline. For each destination we store the most recent price discovered from Travelpayouts and Booking.com. The calculator multiplies that single-seat fare by the number of travelers, since everyone needs their own ticket.
How does trip style change the total?
Budget multiplies hotels and daily budget by 0.7 (hostels, street food, public transit). Mid-range uses the baseline (1.0) for 3-star hotels and mixed dining. Luxury multiplies by 1.8 for 4-5 star properties and fine dining. Flight prices do not scale with style — the same economy seat is the same price.
Do I need to sign up to use the calculator?
